Mavis Lee [Kinney] Hogan [61] After a month long and courageous battle with cancer, Mavis died peacefully Wed. March 16, 2016 in her home surrounded by her husband and children.
Mavis was born Dec 15, 1954 in Chewelah, WA to Harold and Wilma Kinney. When she was five yrs old, her parents moved the family to Spokane where she would live the remainder of her yrs. Mavis graduated in 1973 from Mead High School and shortly thereafter married John Bledsoe. Together, they had two children. Their son Philip was born in 1974 and their daughter Amber in 1977.
June 20, 1981, Mavis married Gary Hogan, the man whom she would spend the remainder of her days with and who honored his vows to the end. Mavis and Gary welcomed their daughter Janessa in 1985.
Mavis began working for the Central Valley School Dist in 1984 but soon left to be a stay-at-home mom to their three children. In 1986, Mavis began her business in her home as a licensed child care provider that continued until the day of her cancer diagnosis in May 2015, which led to her retirement. Over the years, it is estimated that Mavis loved and cared for over 150 children. The love she had for all her daycare children could be witnessed in the way she lobbied for safer and more effective child care laws. She was active in the Childcare Asso. As V-Pres. For two yrs and Worthy Work Worthless Wages for five yrs. In 1998, Mavis won the prestigious Evergreen Award for the S.A.F.E. Place Committee that she was chairperson of which was formed to contribute to the safety of all children. In addition, she traveled to many conferences to continue her education and even held mystery dinners for childcare providers and licensors alike. Mavis believed in the body, mind and spirit connection and loved to travel to holistic and metaphysical fairs around the country. While running The Magic Mystical Tour, she loved organizing small fairs and arranging for speakers. Mavis was a fun-loving woman who was always full of life and looking for a laugh up to the end. She will be remembered as a STRONG woman full of dignity and grace and missed and loved by many friends and family.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Wilma Kinney and her sister, Carol.
She is survived by her loving husband of 34 yrs, Gary Hogan, son Philip Bledsoe, daughter Amber [Randy] Suzara, daughter Janessa Hogan; seven grandchildren; her sister Janet; her half-brother Donald; and a wealth of friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held in her honor on Sun. Mar 20, 2016 at 1:00p. at the Refuge Church at 4904 N. Harvard Rd. Otis Orchard, WA 99027. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Cancer Care NW where Mavis loved and believed in Dr. Susie Mourton and all her nurses in the chemo room at 1204 N. Vercler Rd. Spokane, WA 99216 ..or ..
